Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Volume 1 Illustration

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Volume 1 Afterword

 Afterword

Nice to meet those of you for the first time, and greetings again to those familiar faces. I'm Kuroe Hayase.

Many of you might recognize me from "Shousetsuka ni Narou" or my personal website.

A heartfelt thank you for picking up "I Was Reincarnated as the Villainess, but the Hidden Character Isn't Hiding." It might be my second venture, but let's dive back into the world of print media together!

This work has seen daily updates for over six months, and I'm genuinely overjoyed and honored to see it transformed into a book. The illustrations of Lucienne and Lefebvre are simply fantastic!

Yes, cover and illustrations in an online novel!

That alone brings me an indescribable sense of delight.

Since the last novelization, quite a bit of time has passed, and I'm relieved to find that it wasn't a one-hit wonder. I even pondered whether I can now confidently say, "I'm a novelist." Receiving this kind of recognition is more than I could have hoped for.

But, I have to admit, the word "deadline" gave me a bit of a scare (laughs).

I felt a twinge of fear regarding the deadline; it had to be met without question, or I'd be in big trouble. While feeling the pressure, I diligently worked on each task, ensuring to submit ahead of the deadline each time. Deadlines are intimidating. They're not exactly heart-friendly.

Waiting anxiously every day for updates from the editor, working on the manuscript, responding - these hectic days may have softened the sharp edges of my mental state (laughs).

Digital Edition Bonus Short Story: A Day of Happiness for Lucienne

My day starts with Lulu's voice.

"Lulu, it's morning!"

I awaken to the soothing and unhurried sound. Opening my eyes, I find Lulu standing by the bed, leaning down to peek at me. Linnea has prepared a drink behind him, and Melty is drawing back the curtains in the room.

The morning sun casts a momentary golden glow on Lulu's soft chestnut hair. I cherish this fleeting color that gives his hair a hint of a chestnut hue.

"Good morning."

As I gaze at Lulu's hair, he gently reaches over to slip his hand under my back, prompting me to sit up. He must have thought I was still half-asleep.

"Good morning, Lulu. Good morning, Linnea, Melty."

"Good morning, young lady."

"Good morning. The weather is delightful today."

After exchanging greetings, Linnea hands me a glass.

It's filled with fruit-infused water.

I sip from the glass, return it empty, and then move to the edge of the bed. Lulu, who has been patiently waiting, extends his hand to wipe my face with warm water. Following that, Linnea applies a soothing lotion to my face. After washing up, I change into my clothes, with Linnea and Melty assisting behind a dressing screen. Lulu stays outside.

Special Extra Chapter: A Glimpse into the Future of the Three

"Today, let's make cookies!"

As time passed at the Fayette estate, I celebrated my ninth birthday.

...These four years have gone by so quickly.

From outings with Lulu to encounters with potential romantic interests—those are stories for another time.

I've also grown quite close to my older brother during these four years.

Today, in the Still Room of the Fayette estate, Lulu, my brother, and I gathered. Melty was there, as well as the head housemaid and a maid dedicated to the Still Room.

The three of us decided to make sweets together today.

Since my brother is participating in making sweets for the first time, we opted for simple cookies.

I wore a dress that was almost like a simple one-piece, while my brother took off his jacket and put on an apron.

My brother chuckled.

"Who would've thought I'd end up making sweets with Lucienne like this? If you'd asked me at the beginning, I couldn't have imagined it."

I nodded in agreement.

"Yes, I thought Dear brother really hated me at first."

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 17

 Adoptive Brother

Four days after reaching the mansion and falling ill,

Thanks to regular meals and bitter medicine, the fever had completely subsided, and the heaviness in my body had significantly improved. The doctor granted permission, saying, "Avoid intense exercise, but getting out of bed is fine." However, walks were off-limits due to the injury on my feet.

While the left shoulder still displayed bruising, it had become less painful, allowing more movement, thanks to the ointment. Confined to bed for all four days, my body had grown somewhat sluggish.

During this time, the maids Linnea and Melty bathed me without disturbing my injuries, uplifting my mood.

...Baths really are the best, aren't they?

My hair was silky and fluffy, and my skin was soft and supple. The dull color in my hair and skin was gradually returning to its original hue. Additionally, during free time, Lulu shared various things with me.

'Lucy, if you don't know about yourself, it might be inconvenient later.'

And so, he explained about myself.

My current name is Lucienne La Fayette. I turned five four days ago, on the day of the coup.

The coup was orchestrated by Marquis Bernard Fayette, who now became the new king, King Bernard Loire Fayette. I was accepted as the adopted daughter of the new royal family, the Fayette, and my status seemed to be that of the first princess.

By the way, female members of the royal family have 'La' before their family name, while male members have 'Loire.'

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 16

 Fayette's Mansion

Carried by Lulu, we arrived at a big mansion after crossing rooftops in town. As we silently landed in front of the gate, the guards were surprised and were ready.

Lulu adjusted her hold on me and said, "Wait, wait, I just brought Lucienne-La Fayette."

"They should have known this, though," Lulu added.

Lulu's hand touched my forehead, lifting it. The guards nodded, and the gate opened.

With a casual wave, she strolled through the gate, saying, "Thanks a bunch."

Approaching, the mansion was impressively large.

"This is the new home," Lulu announced, standing at the main entrance.

She grabbed what seemed to be a knocker and boldly knocked on the door.

From inside, a servant—probably a butler or servant in his fifties or sixties—opened the door wider.

"Welcome back, young lady. I've heard from the master. Please, come inside," he said.

Lulu, still holding me, entered the mansion.

Inside, the place was neat, without flashy decorations, giving off a sense of order.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 42

Reincarnated Elf (108), being looked down upon

The sword, forged by combining opposing forces of anti-darkness and light attributes, swung through the air without impact.

Effective against magical beasts, it proved futile against the demons.

Making eye contact with Gurgea, he propelled the large sword from his shoulder towards me.

No magical waves emanated from him or the sword, making it unusual.

"Nuaaah!!!"

The sweeping sword carried immense magical power.

My fragile sword couldn't endure the powerful physical attack, forcing me to absorb the incoming magical assault with my body.

"Non-incantation magic?" I muttered as the impact briefly lessened, only to find myself slammed into a nearby tree.

"To be unable to defend against magic is pathetic for the lower races," he sneered while mounted on the battle dragon, showcasing his formidable magical prowess.

The demon's horns towered over those of the villagers, suggesting formidable strength according to grimoire lore.

Gathering miasma, black lightning emanated from his massive horns, showcasing abundant magical power. With a sword taller than himself, he exuded an even greater sense of intimidation.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 41

Reincarnated Elf (108), facing demons for the first time

The demon army was about to march toward Quarta Village when it happened.

Gurgea, quick to notice, saw a subtle presence darting through the shadows of the houses.

"Hmm? What's this? There are still survivors in this village. You guys really are terrible at searching," Gurgea commented, turning his gaze in the opposite direction of Quarta Village. As a commanding officer, he possessed the ability to detect human presence even when hidden.

"Really? That's strange. We thoroughly searched every nook and cranny of the village and found no one," replied one of the demon soldiers.

"Just capture them quickly. Honestly, demons from rural areas can't even handle a simple manhunt," Gurgea said, using the crystal in his hand to cast a brighter light upon the demons.

"Understood," the bewildered demon soldiers formed a line and followed the shadows where the figures were detected.

—Sir Reese.

Minori, hiding in the shadows of a house, held her sword and made eye contact.

—Cause a spectacular commotion for me, please. I'm counting on you.

Without uttering a word, everything seemed to have been conveyed. Minori nodded emphatically and leaped out toward the demons.

●●●

"So, am I the key to restoring their sanity?"

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 40

Reincarnated Elf (108), raise the signal for the beginning of war

"My Lord Gurgea, we've arrived. This is our hometown. However, it seems that Granny and Gramps are nowhere to be found."

The suspicious group that arrived at Rodd Village numbered around 100 people, led by a demon riding a dragon-like creature at the front. The leader, wearing a neat military uniform, exhibited significantly higher magical power compared to the others.

The rest of the group, unlike the elderly folks from Quarta Village, were robust men dressed in simple attire.

"Hnva?"

Suddenly, the dragon-like creature at the front turned its gaze toward us.

(Oh, can that creature see us...?)

(Even if it can see us, it won't approach. Those are Battle Drakes, small two-legged dragons with habitats in the demon realm. They won't defy an overwhelmingly strong opponent.)

Giving it a confident look, the Battle Drake shifted its gaze as if nothing had happened. It seemed like the creature itself had no intention of hostility towards us.

In the ancient tree homeland of Yggdrasil, I had read about how in the demon realm, wild dragons could be somewhat tamed by displaying overwhelming strength. I remembered feeling excited about the idea. I hadn't expected to encounter one so easily now. Right now, I understood that there were more pressing matters than my curiosity. I am a man who can prioritize appropriately.

...But someday, I'd really like to ride one.

In the demon realm, wild dragons are rumored to possess power several times greater than the demons found in the plains. While taming them is one thing, allowing them to be ridden suggests that the demon riding them must also have considerable strength.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 39

Reincarnated Elf (108), translating the Demon Tribe language

About six months have passed since we left Quarta Village.

On our way to Lastesia, we encountered several villages that had been completely destroyed.

In one corner of such a village, Minoru brushed off a sign covered in ash and dust.

"It seems to say 'Rodd Village'. There are traces of conflict with demonic beasts."

"Even if we trace the magical power in this area back half a year, there are no remnants of magical use. It's reasonable to assume it was unilaterally ravaged."

"Y-you can understand even that!?"

"In the Demon Tribe's magical books, there were explanations on how to read traces of magical power. Our understanding is fundamentally different from those who activate mysterious powers only when using magic."

"S-so, you can now read magical books in the Demon Tribe's language?"

"Somehow, the magical books circulating in the human realm are ultimately derived from those in the Demon Tribe's territory. The structure of the language seems somewhat similar."

Magical books started circulating about 700 years ago, around the time when the hero defeated the Demon King.

If I recall correctly, the oldest magical book that Garius brought back during the era of 'Yggdrasil, the ancient tree' was quite similar in style to this. It was the prototype of the oldest magical book that depicted the battle between the hero and the Demon King – 'The Heroic Tale of the Magic Misfit.'"

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 15

The Destiny of the Royal Family

Beneath the grandeur of the royal palace lied a prison meant for the gravest offenders, those who targeted nobles or even members of the royal family. Presently, it housed the former occupants of the palace – the king, the queen, the concubines, and the children of the queen and concubines. Each of them occupied a separate cell, their hands bound by chains, and their once ornate garments replaced with simple, worn-out prison attire.

"Is anyone there? Someone! Let us out!"

"Release us from here!"

"What about our meals? I'm starving!"

The children's high-pitched voices echoed through the dungeon, yet no one came to attend to their pleas. Frustrated by the lack of response, the queen's children threw tantrums.

Within their cells, the king and queen sat with faces drained of color. The concubines and the second prince, having given up hope, huddled in a corner with their knees drawn up.

Only the queen's children remained oblivious to the severity of their situation.

"In such circumstances, you can still make that much noise."

Suddenly, a voice rang out, causing everyone to startle.

Beyond the iron bars, a figure, seemingly out of place in the grim prison setting, continued in a cheerful tone, "Impressive, not letting being thrown into a cell get to you. But I suppose that makes it more enjoyable."

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 38

Reincarnated Elf (108), uncover the mystery behind the Crimson Horn

"Sir Reese! We've placed protective talismans on the designated large trees around Quarta Village."

"Well done, Minoru. I've just finished crafting the magic as well."

All the demonic beasts that had been targeting the village were temporarily defeated. However, in an environment with such dense miasma, new frenzied demonic beasts would quickly emerge. It is crucial to prevent the elderly ladies who helped us after our departure from falling victim to these creatures.

"Now, all that's left is to surround the entire village with high-level barrier magic—Valkyria Gaze of the War Goddess."

In times like these, ancient magic, particularly barrier magic, is the most efficient solution. While Yggdrasil Silph, the divine protection of the ancient tree that has safeguarded the Elf tribe for over a millennium, is the ultimate invisible barrier exclusive to our kind, the ancient humans independently developed something similar.

Barrier magic, an elevated form of defensive spells, involves placing talismans infused with magic at regular intervals. Then, by connecting these points with lines and pouring in a massive amount of magic, an extremely wide-ranging, continuous magic is activated.

While the protection of the space governed by Yggdrasil Silph depends on the growth of the original ancient tree, Valkyria Gaze of the War Goddess, as a derivative, can cover any area as long as there are talismans and sufficient magic power.

The strength of the barrier corresponds to the amount of magic power infused. Given the contaminated nature of the region with powerful entities, the highest strength is a bonus from me.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 37

Reincarnated Elf (108), savoring Grandma's miso soup

"Grrrr... ...Growl? ...Whimper!!"

In the shadows of the trees, clusters of magic began to move swiftly.

"This seems to be another nest of magical beasts. Minori, what do you think?"

"I sense 38 instances of demonized creatures within a 50-meter radius. They seem to be significantly stronger than normal creatures, likely due to excessive exposure to miasma, surpassing those living in the plains."

Six months had passed since we set foot in a place commonly known as the Demon Realm Dares.

Here, the food and magical beasts were heavily infused with solidified miasma, a condensed form of magical essence. Miasma had a property of turning both fauna and flora aggressive.

Magical beasts that absorbed such miasma experienced a phenomenon known as demonization, and their danger levels skyrocketed compared to regular creatures. According to the magical tomes I've read, even one of them entering a city could pose a crisis, enough to cause the collapse of an entire civilization.

"Despite the increase in miasma worldwide due to the Demon King's revival, this is getting out of hand."

As we continued to subdue such magical beasts, we gradually made our way to the deepest part of the Demon Realm, considered the resting place of the defeated Demon King, known as "Lastesia."

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 36

Reincarnated Elf (107) - Firm Resolve

"Great job over the past year, Sir Reese. It looks like you've been really into magical research for the last six months."

It's the first night since Jin left on his journey. After a comforting dinner, Minoru came over as I sat on the porch.

"There were things I wanted to check while Jin was still around."

I couldn't spill all the details to Minoru yet, but in the last six months, I came up with Factor Absorption Drain, a magic that follows Skill Drain and Attribute Absorption Tribute Drain.

Luckily, having two people with "Factors" around and Vritra being unexpectedly cooperative made the completion pretty quick.

The hitch came afterward — with "Factor Bestowal." Putting new magic into people with different magic types seemed to be quite a load. Even if I could take out "Factors," it was clear I couldn't put them in.

The road ahead will be tough to reach my goals.

"You kept your promise with Lord Grillet, and you found the hero candidate successfully. You've done great. ...It's a bit sad that your time with those two has decreased, though."

Puffing up her cheeks, Minoru rested her head on my shoulder.

Indeed, for the past year, I'd been focused on Jin. To keep the promise with Grillet and ensure peace for the next 900 years, it was crucial to nurture Jin so that the hero's "Factor" could be in him at any time.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 35

Reincarnated Elf (106), letting them spread their wings

"Thank you for sticking by me, Jin. Great work."

On the 366th morning since meeting Jin, his magical capacity had significantly grown compared to the early days.

"......Thanks?"

Jin, practicing sword swings as usual, seemed surprised by the sudden statement.

"Let's move on to the next stage of training. Go out into the world and use your power to help people for real."

At my words, Jin's expression tightened. He already had sufficient magical capacity, and the vessel for accepting the eventual flowering of the 'Hero' factor was already prepared.

"I see. Finally, I can work as an adventurer in the guild!"

"Exactly. However, find companions. Going solo as a stray adventurer has its limits. If you're going to tackle high-level guild requests, cooperation with teammates will be essential."

Jin's expression shifted to anxiety as he swallowed nervously.

Indeed, Jin is here because, just a year ago, he was betrayed by the people he considered comrades, the Crosenar party.

"Comrades, you say?"

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 34

Reincarnated Elf (106), making a promise with Vritra

"Ahahaha, it's been a while, my friend Reese."

"You returned quite quickly, didn't you? I thought you might run out of magical energy sooner."

It had only been half a year since Vritra gained her freedom. Despite concerns about running out of magical energy, Vritra shook her head.

"Of course, the magical energy I received from you shows no signs of running out anytime soon. Moreover, I've learned to do things like this."

While Vritra had been an imposing presence under the Yggdrasil branch, with a patting sound, she suddenly shrank. With a cute fluttering of wings, she perched on my shoulder, exuding no trace of intimidation.

"D-Dragon got smaller...? Truly, it's thanks to Sir Reese's magical energy. It's so squishy and cute!"

In fact, Minori poked Vritra's body with her index finger, enjoying its squishiness.

"Perhaps it's because my body was originally created from a mass of magical energy. It's quite flexible. So, why is a dragon, who has gained such freedom, here again?"

When I asked the question, Vritra casually replied, "The outside world is uncomfortable due to interference from the demons. I thought I'd stay here for a while."

"With the revival of the Demon Lord a few years away, magical beasts and demons are gradually gathering, showing signs of increased miasma. You're aware of that, right?"

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 33

Reincarnated Elf (106), watching from the side

"Superior Magic - Flame Attribute Mana Infusion, Black Flame Serpent's Nest Valharaq"

Minori skillfully infused mana into the wooden sword, wrapping it in black flames that seemed to incinerate even the surrounding air. With her sword positioned mid-level, she faced her opponent.

For a moment, her crimson hair gently swayed in the wind, and with a burst of momentum, Minori kicked the ground forcefully.

"I'm going all out!"

A loud noise accompanied the heat-induced shimmering of the air around Minori.

Facing her, Jin, although somewhat awkward, began to craft mana.

"Today's sparring, please!"

It was the 182nd match between Minori and Jin.

The mana Jin applied to his wooden sword included a mana interference jammer that could nullify Minori's mana infusion enchantment. However, it would only activate when the mana flowing through the wooden sword exceeded a certain threshold.

So far, Jin had managed to completely block Minori's swordplay only once. However, recently, he had started to grasp the sensation of handling mana and slowly adapted to Minori's mana infusion enchantment.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 32

Reincarnated elf (105), becomes a demon sergeant

"T-there's a place like this in the forest, huh..."

The night after the decisive battle, Jin joined us in our living area. It had been five years since we made this place our home. Initially, Yggdrasil, the ancient tree (simplified version) that was only as tall as a person, had now grown to the same height as the surrounding trees. With this growth, the invisible domain expanded, creating a space that even included a makeshift training area.

"From now on, welcome, Jin Fritz. I'm glad that you desired to become stronger and took my hand in that pledge. Does that commitment still hold true?"

"Yes! Being stubborn is my only strong suit!"

Though his eyes were wrapped in anxiety, his words carried a clear determination.

In this world where everyone had magical power, even local children played with slimes using magic in a way similar to catching bugs in the previous world. Adventurers, especially, faced monsters greater than slimes day and night. Their fighting styles varied, with some honing physical skills and complementing with magic, while others focused on magic and supplemented with physical abilities. Furthermore, magical technology had advanced significantly, introducing magical tools moved by magical power to support the movements of practitioners.

Nevertheless, in the midst of all this, Jin had come this far with the handicap of lacking magical power.

Children like him, facing challenges without breaking, deserved to be rewarded. Moreover, his unyielding spirit might just be the key to saving the entire world.

"That's good. Now, let's get to the main topic. Minori, give him the training weapon."

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 14

 Day 14: Coup d'état

I was jolted awake by a clattering noise.

In the pitch-dark and cramped space, it took me a moment to remember that I was hiding in the closet as Lulu suggested.

However, the confined space made me hesitate as I attempted to shift, and then another clattering sound echoed.

I held my breath.

"Haa... Why on earth am I doing something like this? I thought a coup would offer a more dramatic battle to vent my frustrations..."

A man's voice grumbled.

It seemed like he was searching through the storage room.

Sounds of rustling and clattering indicated he was examining different parts of the room.

Perhaps the coup had already taken place, and soldiers had reached the inner palace. If not, there wouldn't be any reason for a non-royal male to enter the inner palace.

What time could it be now?

I must have slept for a considerable amount of time.

Footsteps searching the room came and went.

Finally, the footsteps approached the closet where I was hiding.

The upper door screeched open.

"Tch, thought there might be some valuable stuff hidden sneakily in a place like this, but no luck."

The door was slammed shut rudely.

The vibration transmitted, and my heart raced nervously.

....Please don't open...!

I sensed a strong touch on the drawer.

Just as I thought I'd be discovered, another voice rang out.

"Hey, what are you doing over there!"

The hand that was touching the drawer seemed to retreat at the sound of the angry voice.

"Well, um, I was thinking there might be another royal hiding..."

In a flustered tone, the male voice responded, and the voice from earlier now sounded exasperated.

"No way a person could fit in such a small drawer. Besides, would that royal even come to a dusty place like this?"

"R-right!"

"Stop searching this place and go over there. They were making a fuss about needing more hands."

"Alright, got it. I'll head over there!"

The footsteps of the man who was initially in the room moved away hastily.

As those footsteps faded completely, quiet and measured footsteps approached the closet.

Yet, strangely, I didn't feel fear.

I sensed a gentle touch on the drawer.

Slowly, the drawer I was in began to slide open from the outside.

* * * * *

Coup d'état day.

Lefebvre, disguised as a soldier, swiftly moved around the castle, acting as a communication link between hidden nobles and clients waiting outside for the coup.

Once this task was done, he could go and retrieve Lucienne.

So, Lefebvre promptly reported the locations of not only the royal family and the prime minister but also facilitated a quick capture after the coup began to ensure everything went smoothly.

Thanks to this, both the coup soldiers and the nobles faced no difficulties infiltrating the castle. The castle guards quickly gave up their weapons and abandoned the idea of resistance.

Unable to win in numbers and already low on morale, the royal soldiers seemed almost welcoming of the coup.

The first to be captured was the king, who was enjoying a carefree nap with his concubines. The women, barely dressed, were also apprehended without much ado.

The bewildered king was bound without resistance, but he seemed to regain his senses and began shouting various things.

Next on the list was the prime minister on the castle walls.

The prime minister appeared, speaking pitifully about having no choice but to follow the king's orders, and was captured without resistance.

Perhaps he thought there wouldn't be any evidence or believed he could talk his way out of it.

Despite his attempts to improve his standing by willingly submitting to arrest, it fell on deaf ears among the coup plotters.

All the embezzlement from the national treasury and the manipulation of the government in the king's absence were exposed.

Afterward, the soldiers also entered the harem.

Lefebvre blended in, patiently waiting for the precise moment when the queen consort, the second prince, the queen, and her three children were firmly captured.

The queen consort, maintaining her composure, thought her noble status would shield her from mistreatment. However, the noble leading the soldiers showed no hesitation in capturing the queen and her companions.

Despite their angry outbursts and verbal abuse, the soldiers and nobles paid little attention.

Joining the coup and leading soldiers, the noble explained to the captured royals, including the queen and her children, that this was a coup, and they would all be executed after capture.

It was only at this moment that the seriousness of the situation dawned on the queen and the children, who began to scream and protest. However, their pleas fell on deaf ears.

With the royals gone and the number of soldiers in the harem reduced, Lefebvre headed to the storage room.

There, he found a man searching the room. As soon as Lefebvre called out, the man hurriedly fled.

Amidst all the chaos, there are surprisingly many individuals attempting to take advantage of the situation by committing theft.

After dismissing the man, Lefebvre walks towards the closet.

... Fortunately, there are no signs of it being opened.

Grasping the handles of the two drawers, he slowly pulls them out.

Inside lies Lucienne, wrapped in a blanket, lying on her back, looking up at him.

"... Lulu?"

Even in disguise, Lucienne looks up at Lefebvre firmly and reaches out.

"You understood well, you're very clever."

He reaches out to pick her up.

In the process, a water bottle and a package roll off from Lucienne's chest.

Holding Lucienne with one arm, he picks up the items with the other. There's no sign that the water or the package has diminished.

"Aren't you thirsty?"

He shows the water bottle to Lucienne, and her hand reaches out.

Handing it to her, she opens the mouth of the water bottle, drinks, and hands it back.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

In exchange, he hands her the package.

Re-adjusting Lucienne in his arms, Lefebvre leaves the storage room.

His next destination is the client's place.

* * * * *

Lulu discovered Lucienne when he opened the drawer. Despite the differences in appearance and attire, the vibe and the way he looked at her made it unmistakably Lulu.

He lifts her up, cradling her in his arms. After having some water, he hands her the package of biscuits.

With Lucienne nestled in his arms, Lulu stands up, leaves the storage room, and strolls down the corridor.

"Where are we headed?"

She steadies herself by placing her hand on Lulu's shoulder.

Well, even without doing so, Lulu's arms provide surprisingly sturdy support, and there's not a trace of anxiety about falling.

"To the castle. Outside the harem."

"Outside..."

"Nervous?"

She shakes her head in response.

"Not when Lulu is here."

As they walk down the corridor, a passing soldier-like figure looks at them with curiosity.

But Lulu doesn't seem to mind at all. Therefore, she decides not to mind either.

Certainly, Lulu must have a reason for taking her out.

Upon stepping outside the building, Lulu gazes up at the sky.

"Look, that's the castle."

She raises her face as indicated.

Beyond the harem fence stands a robust stone castle.

... How did the coup soldiers manage to infiltrate such a castle? Storming a castle is supposed to be quite challenging, right?

She never had the chance to leisurely admire the view outside the fence like this before, but the castle looked remarkably beautiful.

"It takes a bit of time to walk from here."

Lulu readjusts her in his arms.

"Lucienne, hold on tight, okay?"

Before she could respond with a "yes," a sensation of being firmly pressed overwhelmed her. However, in the next moment, a gentle floating feeling enveloped her, as if she had been tossed into the air.

Lulu effortlessly leaped over the harem's fence, gracefully landing on a tree beyond. He continued to leap through the gaps between the trees, carrying her along.

Her field of vision rapidly scrolled as he hopped from branch to branch without pause, swiftly moving away from the harem.

The harem's fence disappeared amidst the trees in no time, and the castle rapidly filled her vision as they approached.

"Lulu, amazing!"

It felt like a theme park attraction. Probably much faster than an ordinary person running.

If she unintentionally let out a cheer, she could feel the vibrations of Lulu's laughter.

"Having fun?"

"So much fun!"

She clung to Lulu's neck and exclaimed. It was her first time rushing through the air like this, cutting through the wind.

"Then, as a special treat, I'll show you something even more interesting."

With an excited voice, Lulu uttered a magic spell. He landed on the ground once, bent deeply, and then sprang up like a spring. Whoosh, surrounded by the wind, he soared even higher.

At the peak of the flight, Lulu, still holding her, turned upside down.

From there, she could see the castle, the city beyond the harem, and the endlessly expansive, deep blue sky.

"Wow! It's so vast!"

Spontaneous cheers escaped her.

While descending, he twirled once more and smoothly landed on the balcony of the castle, which seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.

Lulu brushed aside her disheveled hair.

"How was it?"

She smiled back into his narrowed gray eyes, "It was so much fun! I can't believe you can fly like that, Lulu!"

"Right? I'm amazing, aren't I?" He returned one of his hands to her, having held her with both before. Then, Lulu soared upward again, effortlessly scaling the outer wall of the castle.

Hanging onto Lulu's neck, she wondered how far they would go. Eventually, Lulu stopped at a place with several balconies.

"There are many people inside here. Is it okay for Lucienne to enter?"

She nodded in response.

Lulu lightly stroked her head, and for a moment, his figure warped before returning to its familiar appearance.

After that, Lulu walked along the balcony, and with a swift kick, shattered the double doors leading into the castle.

Glass, handles, and door fragments scattered dramatically.

"Just popping in a bit, okay?"

It was more than just "popping in"; it was quite a forceful entrance.

* * * * *

A thunderous crash resonated through the grand ballroom as one of the balconies was forcefully shattered, scattering fragments across the polished floor and luxurious carpets.

Figures emerged through the broken door.

"I'm barging in a bit, alright?"

The strangely elongated, familiar voice echoed through the room.

Bernard gestured to his subordinates, armed with swords and staffs, to stand down. Despite being an assassin, it was unclear why this person had made such a grand entrance. Nevertheless, the intruder was an ally.

"Could you enter more quietly?"

Bernard sighed as he addressed the intruder.

Through the broken glass and scattered shards walked the assassin Bernard had hired, Lefebvre.

With nondescript chestnut hair, sharp gray eyes, and half of his face concealed by a cloth, the slender assassin carried a child in his arms Рlikely Lucienne La V̩rie.

Her once vibrant hair now dulled, Lucienne wore a tattered, ill-fitting dress, exposing wrists and ankles that seemed fragile and ready to break. Instead of shoes, torn fabric wrapped around her bare feet.

Her hair, reaching her waist, looked not only damaged but also forcibly cut, with split ends and a fringe long enough to obscure her face.

Recalling the report, Bernard suddenly realized that today was Lucienne La V̩rie's birthday Рshe had turned five. Yet, she appeared excessively small.

Visible bruises and scars adorned her exposed limbs, creating an impression of extreme frailty, accentuated by her delicate features.

"Is that the girl, Lucienne La Vérie?"

He inquired of Lefebvre, who nodded in confirmation.

"That's right, you know."

Saying that, he brushed up the child's long bangs. Underneath, there was a slender yet charming face. The big, round eyes were a beautiful amber color with a slightly orange tint, shining like transparent jewels, captivating and drawing you in.

"Lucienne!"

A high-pitched voice abruptly interrupted, causing both Bernard and Lefebvre to turn their heads towards the source of the sound simultaneously. The child in Lefebvre's arms trembled.

He gently comforted the child by patting his back.

...So even you would do such a thing.

For a moment, Bernard felt a mixture of surprise and something indescribable, but it was soon drowned out by the continued voice.

"Why aren't you tied up like me?! We're of the same royal blood!!"

The queen's shrill voice was grating.

Beside her, the king widened his eyes.

"Lucienne? ...Could it be, my daughter? The third princess? You're alive? What is the meaning of this?"

The king, with a puzzled expression, alternately looked at the child in Lefebvre's arms and the queen.

"Wasn't Lucienne supposed to be dead?"

In response to the king's words, Bernard looked at the queen, who was surrounded by questioning glares. Under the pressure, she fell silent.

Lefebvre then spoke up.

"Well, you see, Your majesty, you were deceived by the queen, you know?"

Lefebvre smiled like a carnivorous animal that had spotted its prey, squinting his eyes mysteriously.

"Deceived...?"

The king turned to Lefebvre.

"Yeah. See, that queen over there told you that Lucienne was dead and secretly kept it hidden. Then, after killing the second prince, she planned to manipulate King by making Lucienne queen if something happened to you, the King."

Bernard, too, didn't know that the king thought Lucienne was dead.

...Did he not know, or did he knowingly ignore it?

"Well, Your majesty, you weren't interested in Lucienne, right? Even if you were told she was dead, you wouldn't have cared, huh? If you had even a little interest, you would have immediately realized Lucienne was alive, right?"

Certainly, that seemed to be the case.

The servants in the inner palace knew about Lucienne's presence. A simple investigation would have easily revealed that Lucienne La Vérie was alive.

"And you know, that queen over there was colluding with the prime minister. Your majesty might not be aware, but you were poisoned by the prime minister's men multiple times."

"No, that's not true!"

The prime minister interjected.

"A loyal subject would never harm their king! Besides, there's no reason for it!?"

Lefebvre tilted his head.

"Well, you know, considering the prime minister's position, there seem to be plenty of reasons, right?"

"On what basis are you saying such things!"

The prime minister, turning red with anger, faced Lefebvre.

"Well, well, your subordinates willingly provided us with evidence," Lefebvre said, glancing toward the man who used to work as the prime minister's right-hand.

With a pale face and a slight tremor, the man stood there, staring at the prime minister.

Seeing this, the color drained from the prime minister's face.

The evidence Lefebvre received from that man was now in Bernard's possession.

Every piece was more than enough to prove the crimes committed by the prime minister.

By the way, the man who betrayed the prime minister offered to atone for his sins. He pleaded for mercy, especially for his family.

Bernard accepted his plea along with his determination.

"Indeed. Tax evasion, embezzlement, unauthorized removal of national treasures, and various other crimes. There is also evidence of poisoning the king."

At Bernard's words, the king glared at the prime minister.

The prime minister shuddered and, in his bound state, shuffled away from the king.

The king tried to move toward the prime minister, but the soldiers monitoring him held him back.

"More importantly, I have a request for you, Marquis Fayette."

In this tense atmosphere, only Lefebvre casually spoke.

"What is it?"

Lefebvre's request didn't give a good impression.

However, when Lefebvre began chanting some sort of magic, a thin film enveloped Lucienne in his arms.

"First things first, can I have a say in how we handle the royals until their execution? I won't be satisfied until I've repaid what they did to Lucienne."

Lucienne, nestled in Lefebvre's arms, tilted her head in curiosity.

... I see, he's blocked the sound.

"What do you mean by repaying what was done to her?"

"Well, you know. It's not torture, and if it's something done in return for their actions, it should be fine, right?"

Bernard glanced at the royals.

Since they were too noisy, he shaded his hand and cast a soundproof barrier around them.

From their appearance, it seemed they had done various things to Lucienne. Entrusting her to the merciless Lefebvre would undoubtedly leave the royals emotionally shattered.

By witnessing their plight, the people might find some relief.

"Alright. We'll discuss that later. Anything else?"

"Yeah, one more thing. This is an important matter."

"I'll hear it."

The fact that Lefebvre considered this important intrigued Bernard.

Lefebvre, who had been carefree until then, suddenly sharpened his expression.

"Hire me as Lucienne's attendant."

This request was unexpected.

However, upon reflection, it didn't seem like a bad idea.

Once the royal family was executed, Lucienne La Verie would be the sole survivor among the royals. Given her bloodline, there was a high risk of her being kidnapped or harmed, either for misuse or as vengeance by those who held a grudge against the royal family.

Being a skilled assassin also meant being adept at protection. Lefebvre could be a good choice for a bodyguard.

Moreover, Lucienne would eventually be under Lefebvre's care.

...He'll probably come to see Lucienne on his own even if I refuse.

If that's the case, it might be wise to bring in a skilled assassin like Lefebvre to strengthen Lucienne's protection.

Considering the current situation, it seemed unlikely that Lefebvre would betray Lucienne.

"Alright, I'll make you her attendant from now on."

"Thanks a bunch."

Though they had known each other for several years, it was the first time Lefebvre had expressed gratitude.

With a subtle sound, the membrane burst, and Lucienne looked up at Lefebvre.

"What are you talking about?"

It was a whisper, but her high-pitched, clear, and lovely voice carried well.

"I talked to ensure I can stay with Lucienne from now on. That person there is going to be Lucienne's father, and I will be working for him."

Lucienne looked at Bernard.

Her small mouth opened.

"...Father?"

Beautiful amber eyes gazed through the strands of her hair.

Bernard approached Lucienne, who was lifted by Lefebvre.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Bernard Fayette. I'll be your stepfather from now on. Let's welcome you as the adopted daughter of the Fayette family."

Bernard inwardly lamented his inability to come up with a more clever phrase at a time like this.

However, the atmosphere around Lucienne softened.

"Nice to meet you too. I'm Lucienne La Verie. I'm in your care."

Her small head nodded.

"About Lefebvre... would it be alright if I hired the man carrying you as your servant?"

The amber eyes peeking through the hair sparkled.

"Together with Lulu?"

"Yeah, we'll be together outside all the time."

"I'm happy."

As Lefebvre leaned in, Lucienne smiled and followed suit, leaning her head in the same way.

...Seems like they've grown closer than expected.

It would be difficult to separate them at this point.

Following Lefebvre's suggestion seems like the only option.

"Lucienne will come to my mansion."

"Okay~"

Leaving such a small child here any longer is not an option.

Besides, this little one covered in wounds needs proper meals and a safe place to sleep.

Lulu nodded at Bernard's words, and Lefebvre invited Lucienne, saying, "Let's go to the new home."

With that, they left through the broken window.

...Now, I don't have to worry about the child's eyes.

"Until the punishment is decided, tie all of those people to the underground cells!"

Things are about to get even busier.

Bernard watched the royals and the prime minister being led away with a cold gaze.

* * * * *

It seems the coup was successful.

As I'm being carried by Lulu, I reflect on the image of the royals I saw earlier. The king, chubby and almost in his underwear, is bound. By looking at the scantily clad women behind him, it's easy to grasp what had been happening.

...Even someone like that is a father, huh...

No, as mentioned earlier, from now on, Viscount Fayette will be Lucienne's stepfather. Still, the idea of a biological father is different.

A sense of sadness gently spreads in Lucienne's heart.

Her real father was surprised, but he never took the time to truly see Lucienne.

That, in itself, is heartbreaking, and Lucienne's heart cries out in pain. Perhaps Lucienne had a small hope that her father would notice her, recognize her existence, and reach out to her. But, in the end, it was just an illusion.

I knew that, but the part of Lucienne was sad, screaming in pain.

Before I knew it, tears were streaming down my cheeks.

"Lucy."

A hiccup escapes.

"Lucy, it's okay. I'm here."

Running over the rooftops of the city, Lulu strokes my back.

"I will never abandon Lucy."

Why does Lulu always give me the words I long for?

Amidst the sadness, a joyful feeling mixes in, and indescribable emotions arise.

"Lucy," I mumble while clinging to Lulu's neck.

"Yeah, Lucienne, so Lucy. A nickname only I can use. Nice, right?"

...Lucy has a lovely ring to it.

And it's a special name that only Lulu calls me.

I nod while clinging to Lulu's neck.

"...Yeah. Yeah, a name just for Lulu."

Despite having nothing, if Lulu wants it, I want to be with him forever.

"Yeah, I'm the only one who calls you Lucy. And you're the only one who calls me Lulu."

A special nickname just for me. A name exclusively for me.

While embracing tightly, I reflect.

I genuinely like Lulu, profoundly.

Lulu's face inches closer, delivering a kiss, a gentle touch on my cheek.

Just that is enough to ease the feelings of sadness.

"Lulu, I love you."

"I love Lucy too, probably."

Even with that vague expression, it's fine.

As long as Lulu is with me, everything will be okay.

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 13

 Day 13: Reunion

Before dawn, Lefebvre stealthily infiltrated the inner palace.

Following the roof, he entered the building through a magically shielded chimney, and after emerging from the fireplace, he strolled as if taking a leisurely walk.

If this were outside, he might even be humming a tune with his light footsteps.

Passing through the corridor, he reached his destination, the storage room.

Ensuring there were no signs of anyone around, he gently opened the door and swiftly entered.

Today, he chose to enter through the door rather than the ceiling, just for a change in mood.

Inside the dusty room, there was a lump of thick, worn-out blankets from which faint snores could be heard.

Approaching silently, he bent down and peered in.

"Hmm?"

However, he felt a sense of unease.

Staring at the sleeping Lucienne, he noticed that her breathing was a bit heavier than usual.

Trying to move her disheveled hair away to touch her forehead, he noticed a small wound and a bump.

"...Were you hit here? Normally, this wouldn't cause such a rise in temperature."

 Day 12:  Royal Family's Wishes

The next morning, I awoke with aching in my left shoulder. As I got up and reached into the collar to touch my shoulder, I could feel a considerable amount of heat.

Having consumed the last piece of pain-relieving candy the previous night, I found my throat parched, perhaps due to the lingering fever.

Throwing off the blanket, I opened the room door and navigated the corridor toward the well, ensuring solitude before addressing the pain in my left shoulder and drawing water.

Taking a gulp from the bucket, the coldness surprised me. Thirstier than anticipated, I drank more than usual, glancing around to ensure solitude.

Deciding to shed my dress, the sight was startling. Overnight, the shoulder bruise had transformed into a deep purple. The entire petite left shoulder displayed discoloration, justifying the accompanying pain. Other bruises adorned my arms and legs.

Cooling them all seemed impractical. The sky was clear, promising a pleasantly sunny day. Even if I got wet, it should dry swiftly.

Managing to lift the bucket again, I poured its contents over my head twice. The cold sensation, despite being a bit shocking, proved soothing on my fevered body.

Fetching water once more, I repeated the process. Though my underwear was thoroughly soaked, I shrugged it off.

Returning the bucket, I retrieved my dress, wringing out the moisture from my underwear. Seating myself on the grass, today's wind, coupled with the warm sun, made catching a cold seem unlikely.

Hanging the dress on nearby shrubs, I squeezed the moisture from my underwear and enjoyed the grassy seat. The wind tenderly touched my body, imparting a refreshing chill. Though the initially cold sensation lasted only briefly, the combination of evaporating water and the breeze helped cool my now-drying body.

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 11

 Day 11: Princesses and a Child-Like Assassin

The next day, I woke up well into the morning. I stayed awake, hoping that perhaps, just perhaps, Lulu would come, as he had declared. However, true to his words, Lulu did not show up. I must have fallen asleep while waiting. It was lonely, even though I knew he wouldn't come. I got up and fetched some food from the desk, then sat on the blanket, nibbling on it.

He said he wouldn't come for two or three days. Probably, he won't come today either. Still, I can't help but wonder, 'What if he does?'

... I might be becoming too dependent on Lulu.

There's a part of me that thinks it's not good, and Lucienne wonders why it's not good—conflicting feelings inside me.

...Though it's already too late to say it's not good.

Both Lucienne and I have come to like Lulu. It's probably impossible to part with Lulu now. After finishing the meal, I put a piece of candy in my mouth.

It's sweet, a bit bitter, with the herbal aroma, but it has a taste that somehow becomes addictive.

Only one of these herbal candies is left.

Thanks to this candy, the pain in my mouth has almost disappeared, with only occasional stinging when I talk or eat. Though my tongue feels rough when touched, it's much better than it was initially.

...Lulu brought this candy because I said, 'I want to heal.' Lulu, being an assassin, doesn't have a scent. I think he's careful about various things, such as food and belongings. It's unimaginable that Lulu, who is so cautious, carries around candy with the herbal scent. He must have bought it for me.

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 10

Day Ten: Loneliness and His Work

The next day, I woke up when the sun was already high.

I spent the night thinking too much, and since it was getting a bit bright outside just before I fell asleep, I didn't get much rest.

Still, I crawled out from under the blanket and went to the desk.

I pulled out a bundle and a bag from the drawer, took a biscuit and a candy, and then closed the drawer. Back on the blanket, I started nibbling on the edge of the biscuit.

...What's a coup d'état like, anyway? Like a war or a revolution?

In my mind, soldiers break into a castle, fight, and take control by force. There might be peaceful coups, but in this case, I think it's probably through force. Soldiers would likely come not only to the castle but also to the harem.

After all, the queen, concubines, and young princes and princesses live in the harem.

Since all the royals would likely be captured, there's no reason why soldiers wouldn't come here.

...Hmm, should I hide?

But the queens would probably escape or hide, and the soldiers would thoroughly search the harem.

...So, should I just stay still in the storage room?

Listen to My Lady’s Story Chapter 91

The former lady of the duke reunites

On the first day, there was a monster attack, but the ship sailed smoothly thereafter. Life on the ship was surprisingly comfy. Isabella and I explored the vessel at a relaxed pace, and before we knew it, the planned days flew by.

"Isn't that it?"

Isabella, gazing out the window, gestured to me. Looking beside her, a massive city emerged in the snowy landscape.

The city, centered around a rugged black iron castle, seemed less flashy than the royal capital at first. However, viewing the city from the castle revealed a functional beauty, with well-organized streets branching from the main boulevard, unlike the royal capital's historical expansion.

The ship landed at a huge port next to the imperial capital, and the crew rushed into action. We disembarked and hopped onto a carriage, heading into the heart of the imperial capital.

"Something's off, huh? It looks like a carriage without horses."

"It's a magic carriage. Instead of horses, it uses a small magic engine. It's trendy, especially among the wealthy."

Our carriage glided smoothly on the paved streets. Everything outside the window was a new sight. Isabella, sitting next to me, gleamed with excitement, bombarding Hannah with questions. Among the people and carriages on the streets, there were even automobile-like vehicles driven by gentlemen in stylish clothes, surprising me.

Certainly, this empire is a tech powerhouse. The city's vibe is more like the post-industrial era compared to the medieval fantasy-like kingdom mentioned in stories.

In short, the magic engines here seem to play a role similar to steam engines in the previous world.

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 9

 Day Nine: A Brief Goodbye

The following day unfolded quietly, with no notable events. I began by waking up, enjoying the food and candies Lulu had given me, fetching water from the well, and then settling back into the storage room for the day. The rough blanket and even the dusty surroundings had become somewhat familiar.

My routine involved cycles of waking up, dozing off, waking up again, and occasionally slipping into deep sleep. As the day transitioned into night, Lulu would appear seemingly out of nowhere.

"Behaving yourself?" he'd ask, peering down as I sat up from the blanket.

I'd nod in response. "Yes."

"Good girl, good girl," he'd pat my head, and I had grown accustomed to the feel of Lulu's large hands.

After withdrawing his hand, he'd rummage through his pockets and present a familiar package. "Here, I brought some food."

For Lulu, all meals seemed to be called "food," and this time, there were two packages offered.

"Two?" I questioned. We still had some left from before.

Lulu blinked in acknowledgment. "Yeah, I thought I'd give you a bit extra since I might not be able to come for a couple of days. Got some busy work ahead."

His words prompted me to look up at him. "Not coming anymore?"

Lulu shook his head as if to dispel my worries. "No, no, it's not like that. I'll still come, but work's piling up, so I might not make it for a day or two."

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 31

Reincarnated elf (105), making friends with long-lived species

【Name】Vritra

【Species】Ancient Dragon

【Attribute】Darkness

【Dragon Age】29

【Enslavement Sigil】 Flesh Creation Magic

【Practitioner】 Reese Klein

The black dragon before me crunched the boar, once its original vessel, into bones. Its dark body shone beautifully in the moonlit night.

『Hahaha! My desired body! Now I can fly anywhere I want again!』

"Oh, you originally had quite an impressive figure. How's it feeling?"

Vritra extended wings that filled both arms. 『Not bad at all. In fact, the flow of magic is even better than in my prime. How did you, an Elf, acquire such a level of magic power?』

"I spent a hundred years secluded in the forest, just training. Thanks to that, by the time I came out, you could say I was pretty capable."

『What!? A hundred years!? You've been doing nothing but training for that long!? You're quite the senior, aren't you!』

"I've only been out in the world for about five years, so I can't say for sure."

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 30

Reincarnated elf (105), provide a body for the ancient dragon

"...But seriously, this guy talks a lot."

Suddenly, Jin, who had been quietly listening, whispered.

"Ah, yes. It seems the Charm Magic, a type of Truth-Telling (Okeanos), has taken effect."

"W-Wait, Reese, are you using magic right now!?"

"Long ago, this was an ancient magic similar to the brainwashing magic used by demons to corrupt the minds of their enemies. When this magic is cast, the person can only speak the truth as their true self. The more worked up they get, the more their inner thoughts flow like a waterfall."

Charm Magic requires introducing magic particles into the opponent's body without them noticing. The magic particles, finely divided, carry the enchanting magic and infiltrate the opponent's body through the respiratory system, saturating their brain with magic. Sufficient magic power to activate it has already been sent.

Now, all that's left is to let the lingering magic power naturally dissipate while extracting the truth from him. The boar, shaking off wood chips clinging to its body, roared the voice of its soul.

"I simply desire to reclaim my body and soar freely in the vast sky once again! Ah, yes. I don't even know how long his magic will last. Yet, for several years now, he hasn't even shown himself..."

As the very existence begins to waver, his true identity also becomes clearer.

"As long as my life is in their hands, I have no choice but to obey even unreasonable commands and continue waiting for him..."

Moreover, since he harbors resentment towards the practitioner of the flesh creation magic, there is ample opportunity to exploit. In such times, appraisal magic comes in handy. The weaker the opponent, the easier it is to disclose their information.

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 8

 Eighth Day: Severed Bonds

The next morning, I woke up well into the day.

I had some of the food and candy Lulu had given me.

Though my mouth was still irritated, the pain had lessened considerably.

After preparing a makeshift meal, I found myself feeling thirsty.

Leaving the storage room, I made my way to the well, quietly navigating through the corridors.

Considering the time, it should be around lunchtime, so I thought I wouldn't encounter anyone.

However, just as I stepped out of the building, I unexpectedly bumped into the second princess.

I quickly moved aside, yielding the path, but it seemed she was not pleased.

"I am passing, so prostrate yourself!"

She spoke as if she were the first princess.

Come to think of it, the second princess is often seen with the first princess, so maybe she admires her sister.

As instructed, I got down on the ground with hands and feet touching. As I bowed my head, a voice spoke.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 29

Reincarnated elf (105), conducts an interrogation

For the elves, miasma and demonic creatures were their natural enemies.

The sacred tree of Yggdrasil served as a protector, keeping away impure magic and miasma from the outside world. Even something as simple as food was affected. In their homeland, miasma-tainted food was unheard of. But when they ventured into the outside world, they realized that almost every type of food contained some level of miasma.

People from the outside world, from a young age, had been exposed to miasma to some extent, but for the elves, miasma was a foreign concept. They lived in pure environments, and encountering dense, miasma-like clouds in the outside world filled them with an instinctual aversion. They couldn't allow such concentrated miasma to come close to their homeland.

"You're an elf, aren't you? Why would you bring that sacred acorn into this place?"

The dense black miasma emanating from the demonic boar now felt like a direct challenge, a warning sign.

"Is is... over...?"

Jin, standing there frozen, appeared overwhelmed by the miasma. I also felt that I might have fainted if it weren't for my 100 years of training.

"I'm just an elf who came out here to leave a mark on the world. I stumbled upon this place when I ventured outside because I encountered adventurers who were fleeing from you guys. Nice to meet you, or should I say, it feels like I've seen you before."

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 7

 Day Seven: My Decision

The next morning, right after waking up, I went to the desk at the back of the room. I pulled out the bottom drawer and retrieved the hidden package and pouch.

I moved to a spot out of the entrance's view, sat down, and unwrapped the package, taking a bite of the food inside. My mouth was still sore, so I waited for the hard food to soften with my saliva before eating it bit by bit.

I leisurely finished two pieces. Then, I took out a single candy from the pouch, popped it into my mouth, returned the package and pouch to the back of the drawer, and pushed it shut.

The candy was sweet but had a unique herbal scent and a slight bitterness, like a concentrated herb lozenge. It wasn't particularly tasty, but it seemed like it might have some medicinal effects.

With no magical abilities, I had to rely on medicine for healing. Magic wouldn't work on me.

"All right, it's gone," I confirmed that the candy had completely dissolved in my mouth, then stood up.

I was thirsty and wanted to go to the well. However, when I turned the corner in the corridor, I ran into one of the maids who often attended to the queen.

The maid squinted her eyes when she saw me. "Ah, this is perfect timing. The queen wishes to see you. Follow me," she said and turned her back, starting to walk away.

I was thirsty, but I had no choice. If I ignored her, she would probably drag me along, and if I were reported to the prince and the princesses for ignoring the request, they would likely subject me to severe violence.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 28

Reincarnated Elf (105), takes on an apprentice

It was a C-rank magical beast, a Magic Boar, measuring about 2 meters in size. A straight charge from this creature alone was quite imposing. What's more, its fangs harbored magical power capable of easily dispelling the magic of adventurers. This magic bore a striking resemblance to the hardening spells once used by the beastfolk tribe.

What made this particular Magic Boar even more formidable was its ability to channel magic beyond its physical limits, manifesting as a black aura around its body. This state was often referred to as a 'powerful monster,' elevating its threat level to that of an A-rank creature, despite its C-rank classification.

In a desperate attempt to shake off the flames clinging to its body, the Magic Boar confronted the breath of a dragon.

Glancing back, Jin, the 'Chosen Hero,' was stuck in the muddied ground, gazing up at the situation with disbelief. His twisted leg was swollen, making it seem impossible for him to stand.

"――Advanced Healing Magic: Breath of the Goddess."

As the green light enveloped Jin, the reddened leg immediately cooled down.

"Without even using a healing potion...!"

"Those guys are really something. They shouldn't make themselves responsible for their stuff, like carrying their baggage back themselves...?"

However, as he tried to pick up the bag that Jin had dropped, he noticed its substantial weight, equivalent to that of a person. Jin had been running with this burden just moments ago.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 27

The encounter of the next generation's hero

At the moment when he got stuck in the mucky ground, the attention of the two magical beasts instantly shifted toward Jin.

"Could we still have found a way for everyone to make it out alive?"

Recently, there had been multiple warnings about the appearance of formidable monsters emanating a mysterious dark mist in the nighttime forest. Jin had strongly opposed entering the forest at night, but as a member of the party without magical abilities, he couldn't really influence the group's decision. He had no choice but to go along, knowing that disagreeing with the party's approach could lead to being kicked out.

In the vast Vastela Forest, there were numerous beast trails created by large magical beasts and small monsters seeking refuge. Most of these trails led to caves that were too small for large magical beasts to enter. The magic-devouring snake and the magical boar were also nocturnal monsters who would retreat to their lairs with the arrival of daybreak. If they had taken refuge in some cave, they could have waited there until morning and returned home together.

Perhaps Jin's messages relayed through Carl were ignored because they needed to think and act quickly.

Ultimately, it seemed they had chosen to sacrifice Jin to survive...

"If only I could use magic, could I save people like everyone else?"

Jin had dreamed of becoming a powerful adventurer since he was young. He admired adventurers who traveled the world, vanquished magical beasts, and protected people's happiness, just like the heroes in stories. However, he couldn't use the most essential skill for adventurers, magic.

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 6

 Day Six: A Small Wish

The following day, I was awakened by the growling of my hungry stomach. Despite having eaten lightly due to a mouth injury, I knew it was time for a meal.

I rose from my bed and left the cozy warmth of my blanket. In the storage room, at the back, I opened the bottom drawer of a desk. From within, I retrieved a package, a gift from Lulu, which I discreetly concealed among my undergarments.

Exiting the storage room, I made my way to the well. Inside the main building, the maids were busily occupied, and I slipped outside without drawing their attention.

Arriving at the well, I drew some water and quenched my parched throat. Then, I hid among the thickets of nearby trees, reached for the package concealed beneath my clothes, and gingerly unwrapped it. A fragrant aroma wafted from the package as I retrieved a piece.

As my mouth was still tender from the burn, I placed a corner of it in my mouth, allowing it to soften as my saliva worked its magic. However, the taste eluded me due to the injury to my tongue.

I couldn't help but feel a bit let down. On the brighter side, I was grateful that Lulu had shared his name with me. Even if it was a nickname and not his true name, it hinted at his fondness for me. It was a pity I didn't live to see the release of the fandisc.

Nevertheless, I had to remind myself that this was not a game world. Both Lulu and I were living in the present. There were no second chances or resets here if things went wrong.

It might appear like a world similar to the game, but that's where the resemblance ended. In reality, I had formed a genuine friendship with Lulu, even though the original game didn't include a scenario where Lucienne had an acquaintance who was an assassin.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 26

The future hero gets kicked out of the party.

In the Vastela Forest at night, there's an adventurer party desperately retreating toward Kukule Fortress.

They're known as the B-rank adventurer party "Crosenar." Led by their "Magic Swordsman" leader, Ryuk, they've been making a name for themselves in recent years, racking up success.

"Ha...ha... What's going on? These guys are tough! Advanced water-element magic, Water Pressure Cannon!"

Ryuk, visibly struggling, fires magic into the dark night, trying to push pressurized water at the magical beasts.

But the magic has no effect and is easily absorbed by the magical beasts. In return, when the magical beasts in the dark cast their magic, it rapidly decays the ground with power equal to A-rank magical beasts.

By Ryuk's side is Carl, a girl with red-rimmed glasses, who is both an "Appraiser and Healing Sorceress."

"These should be C-rank magical beasts, Magic-Eating Serpents, and Magic Boars. It's strange, isn't it?"

"I know! I've taken down Magic-Eating Serpents and Magic Boars countless times. But none of our magic attacks are working. And what on earth is that thing they're casting? Is that really a C-rank magic attack?"

Ryuk pointed towards the black mist surrounding the bodies of two magical beasts, and Carl peered through her glasses to observe the approaching enemies.

Akuyaku no Oujo ni Tensei Shitakedo Chapter 5

 Day Five: Lulu

As I woke up, the sun had already climbed high in the sky. The previous day, I had burned the inside of my mouth, so I ended up staying in my room, sleeping all day.

Thanks to the ice and honey he had given me, my mouth was still sore, but at least there were no blisters.

I took a glance at my hands and feet.

...I'm so dirty.

I suddenly remembered that it had been nearly five days since I last cleaned myself.

Getting up, I grabbed a piece of old cloth. With it in hand, I gently opened the door.

Once I ensured no one was around in the corridor, I decided to head for the well.

The weather was pleasant today, with no wind, warm sunshine, and a comfortable temperature.

...Under these conditions, I could take a bath without any issues.

For a moment, I hesitated about undressing outside. But then I reminded myself that this harem was exclusively for women, and my current body was that of a five-year-old. There was really nothing to be embarrassed about. Besides, I was wearing undergarments beneath my dress.

I had pumpkin-like shorts and a tank top-like garment, so I wasn't completely nude.

Day Four: Bullying and Shocking Truths

I woke up abruptly. As I sat up and looked around, there was no one in the storage room, and the morning sun was shining through a small window. It seemed like I had fallen asleep without realizing it after everything that had happened.

I covered my face with my hands.

"I was so shocked!"

I screamed inside my head.

What's going on? Is Lefebvre Nicholson really a yandere? Saying things like, "If I can't have you, I'll kill you, and if I can't have you, I'll kill you with my own hands." He's the terrifying kind of yandere, not just a walking landmine!

He's the possessive yandere who believes that your life belongs to her!

"But maybe I'm the same..."

Lucienne seemed pleased.

She genuinely felt it would be okay to be killed by him.

And I didn't even feel afraid of that. In fact, I felt strangely relieved that I wouldn't be alone in my final moments, and I couldn't help but feel a bit happy.

I don't remember it very well, but I've died once before.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 25

Reincarnated elf (105), discover the 'Hero' factor.

"Tonight's dinner is Minori Special No. 34, a delicious dish of Rock-Eating Fish steamed in white wine. We caught them in the Folt River, and it's more budget-friendly than buying from the fishermen at Kukule Fortress."

Rock-Eating Fish return from the sea to spawn in the river during this season, benefiting from the cooler weather.

These magical monsters are known for consuming rocks to grow. The ones that feast on rocks rich in magical essence from the river are the most prized, resulting in their delightful fat content.

While they bear some resemblance to salmon from a previous life, these fish are unique magical creatures that have their own flavors to offer.

The ones with the most fat can sometimes be traded on the Imperial Kingdom's internal market for enough to sustain you for a week.

Despite that, Minori takes care of everything herself, from sourcing the ingredients to preparing the meal, and her hard work truly deserves recognition.

The steaming process leaves the white meat tender, with a delightful, slightly wobbly texture. The soup, infused with the fish's flavor, provides a mixture of sweetness and a subtle touch of saltiness that lingers in your mouth.

As always, Minori's culinary skills shine at the dining table, and the meal is as delicious as ever.

"It seems that recently, the dishes have become even more delicious."

"Hehe, lately, I've been adding hints of the fruit flavors you like, Sir Reese. The ingredients turn out tender and just right, I thought."

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 24

Reincarnated elf (102), sending off a friend

When someone is on the brink of death, it's said that they resemble the brightest version of themselves from their past. If there were gods in this world, I'd think it's a clever arrangement.

"Master, you shouldn't be in a place like this yet."

While tapping his broad right shoulder, bearing a massive axe, Grillet showed a mischievous yet troubled smile.

"Don't worry. I plan to return in just a few minutes. I felt the need to have one last chat with you, Grillet. I assumed you hadn't completely passed away yet, so I'm relieved that I made it in time."

If a living being hasn't completely died yet, their soul finds its way to the threshold of death. I thought it was worth a shot after seeing a reaction when I held his hand on his deathbed, and it worked quite well.

"It seems I can still sense temperature and hear a bit, huh? Your hands, Master, they haven't changed a bit since that time. They're still white, clean, and youthful as ever."

"Elves typically begin aging after they reach 800 years."

"Which means that the clan chief must have lived for such a long time!? I see, the lifespan of the Elven race is truly remarkable..."

Grillet couldn't see, but his eyes seemed filled with wonder.

"In fact, Grillet, I can use my magic to give you a physical body as well. There's a revival spell for necromancers. A great necromancer in history performed a forbidden ritual known as the 'Ancient Rite of Resurrection,' which temporarily called forth the 'Origin Demon Lord' and the 'Dragon King' into the world. The number of oaths involved was staggering, but I will certainly find a proper resurrection method. Even if it's only temporary until then..."

 Day Three: What I Want

The next day, I continued to sleep through most of the daytime.

However, once again, I received no food.

I decided to save as much as I could of that sweet-smelling thing he had given me. My stomach rumbled in response.

I looked up at a small window high above, through which I could see the stars in the night sky. I wondered if dinnertime had already passed. I couldn't be certain of the exact time, but it felt like it was probably past 10 o'clock at night.

Carefully, I opened the door, making sure the dim corridor was empty.

I headed toward the kitchen, following Lucienne's memories. It was dark, so I had to be cautious not to get lost. It was amusing how the area around my storage room was kept dark, but as I moved further away, the hallway was illuminated by lamps.

When I reached the kitchen, it was already dark, the fires extinguished, and no one in sight.

However, the room two doors down seemed to have people inside, and the delicious scent of soup filled the air. I swallowed the saliva that had accumulated in my mouth. The aroma of vegetables and meat simmering was enticing.  But I knew they wouldn't share it with Lucienne, even if I went there. Most likely, I would either be chased out or taken back to my room

So, I decided to act quietly. As I entered the kitchen, I was met with the lingering aroma of the meal that had been prepared earlier. I checked the table, but it seemed there were no leftovers. Even if there were, the servants would probably share it among themselves, and I wouldn't get any.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 23

Reincarnated elf (102) decided to make a visit

We used teleportation magic to quickly reach Kukule Fortress, and we found ourselves right in front of the Garlander Marchioness's estate.

A guard, now in his seventh year of service, recognized us. "Oh, it's Sir Reese and Lady Minoru, isn't it? Please come in." We were smoothly escorted to the fourth level, reserved for family members.

In front of a particular room, we found Garlanda, the Lord of Kukule Fortress. It had been two years since we last met, and he looked more composed and had a slightly more relaxed expression.

Beside him was Silfa, the silver-haired lady, and at her feet, a little boy who clung to her nervously. Silfa greeted us with a smile, and Minoru respectfully bowed.

Next, Garius came over to me. "Thank you very much for coming, Master Reese."

I responded, "It's been a while, Garius. I feel like you've become quite dependable compared to the last time we met."

"If you can say that, Master Reese, it's all thanks to your support. It's been two years since then. Thanks to you, I was able to make time to have a proper conversation with Father once again. At first, I was fumbling in my role as the Lord, but with Father's guidance, I managed to get things on track."

"That's great to hear. By the way, who's this?"

I shifted my gaze to the little boy who had moved away from Silfa's side and was curiously looking at me. He introduced himself as Weiss, a young boy with neatly arranged black hair and big, round eyes. He seemed to resemble Garius more in terms of his composed and knowledgeable demeanor than the adventurous and courageous Grillet.

"His name is Vais. Well, to my embarrassment, he was born just two years ago. My apologies for the delayed introduction. Say hello, Vais."

"Umm? Hello, Master Reese?" A young boy, Vais, pointed at me, his eyes wide, looking in my direction.

"Hello, Vais. I'm Reese Farlan, and I'm 102 years old."

"I'm Vais Garland, and I'm two years old," he greeted with a proper little bow.

So young.

"My father is right here. Although he's unconscious, please allow me to show his face."

Suppressing trembling laughter during our conversation, Garius guided me inside. Both Garius and Silfa had expressions that appeared more cheerful, despite their grief. This was a stark contrast to my visit two years ago when Grillet fell into a deep coma due to a sudden illness.

"Grandpa, Master Reese is here!"

Young Vais quickly reached Grillet's bedside.

"My father often talked to Vais about you, just like he did with me. He used to say, 'Someday, Vais, you'll become as strong as Master Reese.' I've heard that many times," Garius explained.

Grillet had a serene expression. His body, once corroded by the dark miasma, now showed no such signs. His life's flame was quietly fading.

"Hello, Grillet. You've become so much calmer since I last saw you."

I held Grillet's shrunken, wrinkled hand.

Thump, thump...

The small pulse in his hand was significantly fainter than it used to be. I remembered the first time we shook hands. My hand had fit snugly into his muscular, large one, and I could feel a strong, powerful pulse. Now, our hands had withered to nearly equal sizes.

"…?"

Suddenly, I felt a slight movement in his hand. I'd heard that, near death, a person's hearing often remained intact. Perhaps, he was aware that I was here.

"Garius, can I ask a favor?"

"Of course, Master Reese. I'm here to assist."

"I'd like to have a short conversation with Grillet, something I forgot to tell him."

"Is that possible?"

"I can use necromancy, a guide to the brink of death, an ancient form of magic once practiced. It allows me to separate my soul from my body for a few minutes. If it's feasible, should I deliver a message?"

This method temporarily detaches my soul from my body, allowing me to journey to the brink of death—a path often taken by the deceased. However, I must be cautious, as delaying my return could lead to being drawn closer to death.

"Master Reese, you truly have an array of abilities, don't you? I'd be honored to help. Please go ahead and deliver the message."

Garius responded with a small smile and added, "Thank you. Please take your time to rest."

●●●

As I opened my eyes, I found myself in a dimly lit world.

In front of me, there stood a solitary gate, casting a faint glow.

I see, many souls are being drawn toward this gate.

Even though it's a form of necromancy, the magic that governs life and death, it's astonishing how close 'death' feels here.

And then...

"Hey there, isn't that you Master? What on earth brings you to a place like this?"

With his spiky chestnut hair and robust physique, carrying an enormous axe on his right shoulder, the towering man heading my way was none other than Grillet, the man I first met when I was 73 years old.

 Day 2: Someone Interesting

"... Fever's gone."

The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed. I'd had a high fever last night, but now my temperature seemed normal.

Come to think of it, he visited me, right? He brought me not only water and food but also some medicine. Was it a fever reducer? During the day, he also took care of my wounds, and thanks to him, I felt much better today.

I heard a rustling sound under my clothes as I got up. I sat on the blanket, shook my clothes, and a small package rolled out from my skirt. I picked it up, and when I opened it, there were small, square, crispy, fox-colored pieces inside. They had a faint, toasty sweet scent.

"What is this?"

I placed the package on my lap, unfolded it, and found four small, square pieces inside, slightly smaller than the palm of my hand. They had a faint, sweet scent.

"Oh..."

These are the ones I had last night!

I took one piece, sniffed it cautiously, and recognized the sweet aroma. I scanned the room, but, of course, there was no one else here. Still, I felt somewhat cautious.

This was one of the few times I'd received proper food from someone, a rare occurrence in Lucienne's memories. A warm sense of joy spread within me.

I took one piece out of the package, closed it tightly, and placed it in an old, abandoned desk in the corner of the room. I opened the bottom drawer and carefully slipped the package into a hidden gap at the back.

Reincarnated Elf Chapter 22

Reincarnated elf (102), discovering the joy of meals

"Thanks to Sir Reese's skilled slicing, tonight's meat is incredibly tender! This is Silfa Dining's secret recipe number 33: Cockatrice Oyakodon. Please enjoy!"

The dinner table displayed a sumptuous feast, adorned with fresh eggs from the fortress and recently harvested chicken, their luster gleaming.

And the discovery of rice in this world was a welcome surprise, reigniting the lost pleasure of mealtimes.

Each scoop with the spoon brought forth steaming, delicately half-cooked eggs. Every chew released the meat's rich succulence and its savory broth, enhancing the rice's sweetness.

"Yup, as delicious as ever. Minoru, your culinary skills keep expanding. Thanks, as always."

"Ehehe, I'm just happy you enjoy it."

I tousled her hair, making her fluffy locks bounce. Her way of expressing joy hadn't changed much over these two years.

But her eyes, as she gazed at me, seemed even brighter than usual.

"Is something on my face?"

"No, it's just that seeing Sir Reese savor his food so contentedly makes me happy."

"…You're right. It's been so long since I've enjoyed a meal like this."
