Reincarnated elf (105), conducts an interrogation
For the elves, miasma and demonic creatures were their natural enemies.
The sacred tree of Yggdrasil served as a protector, keeping away impure magic and miasma from the outside world. Even something as simple as food was affected. In their homeland, miasma-tainted food was unheard of. But when they ventured into the outside world, they realized that almost every type of food contained some level of miasma.
People from the outside world, from a young age, had been exposed to miasma to some extent, but for the elves, miasma was a foreign concept. They lived in pure environments, and encountering dense, miasma-like clouds in the outside world filled them with an instinctual aversion. They couldn't allow such concentrated miasma to come close to their homeland.
"You're an elf, aren't you? Why would you bring that sacred acorn into this place?"
The dense black miasma emanating from the demonic boar now felt like a direct challenge, a warning sign.
"Is is... over...?"
Jin, standing there frozen, appeared overwhelmed by the miasma. I also felt that I might have fainted if it weren't for my 100 years of training.
"I'm just an elf who came out here to leave a mark on the world. I stumbled upon this place when I ventured outside because I encountered adventurers who were fleeing from you guys. Nice to meet you, or should I say, it feels like I've seen you before."
"Hoh?"
"It's the voice from Grillet's memories. Based on the quality of magic, it seems you're the demon beast that was with the demons at that time."
The dark miasma in front of them swayed dramatically, now thinner than it had been when it appeared in Grillet's memories.
"Maybe it's a kind of dark magic. What's intriguing is how it has managed to exist as a formless entity for a decade. But it seems its presence has faded considerably compared to before."
The dark miasma then retreated back into the demonic boar.
"I was sealed deep within the sacred forest's shrine. After being summoned back to the mortal realm, I've been receiving magic from the Demon King's subordinates. That's about it."
The boar appeared restless as it dug into the earth with its hooves.
It reminded me of similar tales in ancient texts. Around the world, shrines known as "Sacred Shrines" sealed divine beasts that had caused too much chaos.
If a creature proved too powerful to defeat, the common approach was to seal it, a strategy the Demon King also followed. This boar before me was probably one of these sealed divine beasts.
Its physical body had long decayed, but its soul remained within the shrine. There, the demons used dark magic to craft a new body, forcefully uniting the soul with this form. This magic defied the natural order and consumed a significant amount of magical energy.
The Demon King's subordinates likely used this to temporarily house divine beast souls in ordinary demonic creatures, anticipating that when the Demon King revived, these creatures could return to their original forms.
Let's dig deeper. Since magic is working on it now, it should answer anything.
"Okay, when is the Demon King going to resurrect?"
"So far, I've offered sacrifices, and there's also the waning power of the seal. The resurrection is still about three years away. While I've existed as a spirit-form within this boar's body due to its magic power, I will be complete once the Demon King revives. I'll finally be free from this lifeless form."
"I see. So it all depends on whether your spirit-form has merged with the demonic boar by then or not, right?"
In response to my words, the boar's tusks twitched.
"You get it, don't you? It has been a decade since the attack by Grilette. Even if you received magical energy from the demons, it's not your original body. In this world, physical bodies are stronger than spirit-forms. What will happen first: the Demon King reviving and your body briefly returning to normal, or your spirit-form being absorbed by the boar, vanishing along with it, and becoming a true beast. Which one will it be?"
"Shut up!"
The enraged boar, fully immersed in its emotions, poured its magical power into its tusks and charged recklessly, literally crashing into the trees as it lost control.
