Reincarnated Elf (108), Delving into Psychic Magic
"By the way, I find this mental contamination magic quite interesting. Though I don't fully get it, basically, you just need to channel demon-resonating magic into this crystal."
The mental contamination magic on the demon villagers shows up as a debuff in appraisal magic, but Gurgea doesn't have it.
"Hmm, I see. So far, you haven't been hit by any mental contamination magic."
I'll do a detailed appraisal magic on Gurgea.
Can't escape, can't defend, can't hide. With all three in place, I can cast magic calmly.
"Hmph, obviously. I'm no rural demon; I'm a pure demon raised in the mainland. My loyalty to the Demon Lord is unmatched. No matter what's asked, I won't show weaknesses or give in!"
Gurgea sits in seiza, tied up.
Within moments of waking up, he became more spirited. Quite a hassle.
"I see. That's reassuring to hear."
This means Gurgea isn't under any debuffs, regardless of his status.
Next, I'll carefully look at the crystal taken from Gurgea.
"Is this a magic stone?"
Near a dragon's nest in a certain country or in a miasma-filled swamp where no one can approach.
It's said to be an item limited to specific places even in the human realm.
Are these items common in demon territories?
Even with Garius's money, such an item couldn't be bought.
Honestly, it's envy-inducing.
Most likely, this crystal amplifies magic.
The magic itself combines "healing magic" and "dark attribute magic," layered with ancient magic like "restraint magic" and "madness-inducing magic."
The "madness-inducing" phenomenon happens when magical beasts filled with miasma lose self-awareness and become violent.
If this appeared suddenly in the human realm, it would be a major threat requiring multiple adventurer guilds to unite for subjugation.
Reading demon territory grimoires, I was surprised it even became 'magic.'
It's a series of discoveries, finding uses in unexpected ways.
Stabilizing human hearts, making minds more susceptible to darkness. Next, inducing a demon's power to go berserk, creating madness, and then restraining for obedience—roughly the magic's mechanism.
Even the most complicated magic can turn out to be a combination of surprisingly simple spells.
"That's enough with the mumbling! Well, whatever. Untie me. I'll even recommend you to Lord Uva myself. Despite being a Dark Elf, your oddly pale skin doesn't matter much. The Demon Lord's army is all about power. With your strength, you could easily climb the ranks. Let's conquer the world together, wipe out the humans—why the unhappy face?"
"I won't bother with such trouble. It would ruin my 900 years."
Honestly, he came here to prevent the Demon Lord's return and keep those 900 years peaceful.
But, there were some good things that came out of it after actually being here.
There were grimoires that didn't circulate in the human world, and lots of unknown magic.
And—
"I'm grateful for this opportunity. After all, I can fully test your magic."
A mix of healing and dark magic, following instructions from the grimoire I read yesterday, and finally adding the restraining magic.
"What are you saying! This is a magic only noble demons can use! The crystal won't work without precise magical power! Just a mere Dark Elf like you—"
Poof.
"Oh, this feeling. Is it working?"
The crystal lit up.
It was a deep red, even darker than Gurgea's light, and—
"If I channel this, it can corrupt you."
Indeed, this is the mental contamination magic.
Demon territories truly use magic differently than the human realm, and it's refreshing.
Gurgea's eye color changed after seeing the light.
"St-stop, please stop, d-don't come...!"
I reached out to the crystal as if clinging to it.
"You've probably done this before. Forcing loyalty to the Demon Lord, attacking your homeland with your own hands, stealing hearts. Like that, now I want you to cooperate with me."
The magic mixed into the crystal was directed at Gurgea.
"I—I'm disappearing...!"
Muttered almost inaudibly, it might have been his last words.
The bluish glow of his horns lost its light, replaced by a faint crimson.
"Ah."
Gurgea's eyes fell into a drowsy slumber.
The Gurgea without any sense of resistance opened his eyes again.
There was no sense of resistance or tragic feeling; there was just an obedient Gurgea.
"Please give me any orders, Lord Reese."
Seeing Gurgea faithfully transformed, I decided to refrain from abusing this magic.
I strongly pledged that. However, there were still things I needed to question him about.
"Well, I won't hold back. Guide me to the place where you attempted to brainwash for the Demon Lord's revival, not only Rodd Village."
I won't let them sacrifice the demons in their own territory for the sake of reviving the Demon Lord.
So that innocent demons' lives wouldn't be scattered by Jin and the others, who know nothing—
